Greenville, SCCarolina Rise, a name, image, and likeness (NIL) collective focused on University of South Carolina student-athletes, has raised $140,000 since its inception according to Carolina Rise Owner and Founder, JC Shurburtt.

Carolina Rise, a for-profit enterprise, was founded by brother’s JC and Cameron Shurburtt as a way to keep the University of South Carolina competitive in the NIL space. “We aren't taking any money (my brother and I). Outside of expenses like postage, it all goes into player deals. I want it to be clear that I am not in this to make a penny, it's all for South Carolina,” said JC Shurburtt.

According to the Carolina Rise website, “It is a new day in college athletics with student athletes able to profit off of their name, image and likeness. Carolina Rise is a collective that is focused on the University of South Carolina. Note that Carolina Rise is a privately owned company and not affiliated with the University of South Carolina or its athletics department, per South Carolina state law.”

Money for the collective is raised through membership donations including one time, monthly, and customized donations. “There is power in numbers. No contribution is too small or too large” per the Carolina Rise website. This is the second collective connecting Gamecock athletes to name, image, and likeness opportunities.
